How are composite fillings placed in Brooklyn NY:
Composite fillings are usually placed in one appointment at our dental office. Often local anesthesia is delivered.  The decay is removed and tooth thoroughly cleaned and carefully prepared before the new filling is placed. If the decay was near the nerve of the tooth, a special cavity liner will be applied for added protection. The composite filling will then be precisely placed, shaped, and polished, restoring your tooth to its original shape and function.

Composite fillings along with silver/mercury (amalgam) fillings) are the most widely used today. In the past, amalgam fillings have been the filling material of choice for dentists. Many dentists still do provide this filling material. However, Brooklyn NY dentist Dr. Yelena Vaysman feels that amalgam fillings have very limited place in modern dentistry. Tooth colored materials bond to the existing tooth, there is less risk for tooth fracture than when using amalgam fillings, which do not bond to the tooth. Finally, if we can restore a tooth with a fine, long lasting material that blends in with the natural tooth, why use something ugly such as silver/mercury filling material? All our patients like the fact that their fillings are invisible. We do not use dental materials cotaining BPA.
Reasons for composite tooth colored fillings:
It is normal to experience sensitivity to hot and cold when composite fillings are first placed, however this will subside shortly after your tooth acclimates to the new filling.
You will be given care instructions at the conclusion of your treatment. Good oral hygiene practices, eating habits, and regular dental visits will aid in the life of your new fillings.
